American Democracy Project Focuses on First Amendment in Education

On Tuesday, April 9 the Democracy Project at East Stroudsburg University hosted a presentation titled “Free Speech in U.S. Schools: When Could Students be Punished for Off-Campus Behavior,” to help alleviate confusion surrounding the First Amendment in schools.

Attorney Gerard Geiger, a civil rights attorney at Newman Williams in Stroudsburg, Pa., led the presentation on how schools balance student safety with first amendment rights, especially with the rise of social media. Geiger has been admitted to practice at all levels in the United States federal court system including the U.S. Supreme Court.
