The East Stroudsburg University Entrepreneurial Leadership Series continued virtually on Thursday, September 10, 2020 with alumnus Dominique Washington, a self-published author discussing “The Power of the Pen: Inspiring Change through Self-Publishing”.
Washington shared his experience with self-publishing and the importance of having your voice heard during times of social injustice. Washington is the author of four short poetry collections that he published through Amazon: PTSD; Disease of the Mind; The Black Book: The Diary of a Broken Black Man; and Black: Can A Black Man Survive in America? Each book reflects a period of time in his life, focusing on the struggles he had to overcome and the inner turmoil he was feeling. The topics of the books range from social justice, advocacy for change, personal experiences, flaws in the education system and mental health.
Washington’s most recent book PTSD explores the social and political unrest currently occurring in the United States.
Washington holds two degrees from ESU, earning his bachelor’s in political science and government in 2015 and obtaining his master’s in sports management in 2017. Washington is currently a student success specialist at Albright College in Reading, Pa.
The Entrepreneurial Leadership Series will continue this fall semester in a completely virtual format due to COVID-19. While this is a break from the traditional in-person format, it is not necessarily a bad thing according to Jamie Kizer, interim director of entrepreneurship. “Having a virtual event like this gives us access to dynamic speakers who may not have been able to physically come to campus under normal circumstances,” said Kizer. “We have a very talented lineup of speakers this semester, and we so look forward to having them share their experiences with our students.”
The series will continue with the next session “Transformation Through Personal Training” being held on September 24 at 2 p.m., featuring speakers Steve Schweinfurth ’10 and Scott Schweinfurth, owners of Transform Personal Training, LLC.
Other upcoming topics for the Entrepreneurial Leadership Series include: Building Your Ecommerce Business, Pitching Your Big Idea, Using Live Streaming & Video for Business, and Business Law for the Rising Entrepreneur.
