ESU Student Ryan Smith Featured by People Magazine

East Stroudsburg University student and men’s basketball player Ryan Smith, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in summer 2019, is featured by People Magazine after a tweet by his girlfriend, Molly Gorczyca, about their meeting and relationship gathered more than 1.7 million likes by mid-October.

Smith and Gorczyca, both collegiate athletes – Smith was the 2019 PSAC East Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Year at ESU, and Gorczyca is a field hockey athlete at Rowan – met through their time receiving treatment for AML at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Gorczyca shared their story as part of the “how it started/how it’s going” trend which garnered national interest.
