East Stroudsburg University’s Provost’s Colloquium Series, an intellectual experience that promotes dialogue among ESU faculty, staff, students, and community, continues this fall with a virtual presentation by Bonnie Green, Ph.D., professor of psychology. The presentation, “Oppositional Mindset: Uncovering a Path to Success,” will take place on Wednesday, November 4 at 5:30 p.m. Access the presentation via this Zoom link: https://esu-online.zoom.us/j/99117827827

It has been long known that successful people, regardless of the kind of success they experience, do not let others hold them back. Dr. Green and her ESU undergraduate research students have uncovered a previously unidentified path toward success, even in the context of unjust or harsh criticism. They have deemed this process oppositional mindset, which occurs when an individual is told they will not be successful, but instead of heeding the warning, they continue towards the very success they were warned they could not achieve.

During this interactive workshop, Dr. Green will review the process undertaken to first identify the process of oppositional mindset and the methods used to uncover what enables some people to recover from negative feedback and go on to thrive, while others are stopped with criticism. Attendees will learn about songs that demonstrate oppositional mindset that can be used for self-motivation. They will further learn about what they can do to assure their own success, or to help facilitate success in others, through the easy-to-apply process of oppositional mindset.
