Seven students from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will participate in The Osgood Center for International Studies Virtual Presidential Inauguration Program, January 11-21, 2021. This two-week seminar, conducted every four years, includes opportunities for ESU students to interact with journalists and media observers such as Shane Harris of the Washington Post, Steven Roberts of the New York Times, and others. Susan Page, the Washington Bureau Chief for USA Today, has been invited to speak. According to Kimberly S. Adams, Ph.D., professor of political science at ESU and campus liaison to the Osgood Center, the virtual event will also feature experts on American politics, U.S. foreign and domestic policy, the history of the presidential inaugurations and the transition process. Other institutions participating in this program include Baylor University, The University of Maryland, the University of Houston, Howard University, The University of Charleston, Tianjin Foreign Studies University and more.
“I am so excited for our students to participate in the Osgood Center’s two-week Presidential Inauguration program,” said Dr. Adams. “While the pandemic has made it impossible to attend in person, I know that this will be an invaluable [virtual] learning opportunity for our students. I have encouraged them to network and update their resumes for potential internships and/or employment.”
ESU students who will be participating in this program are: Kimberly Panico, a graduate student in political science from Tobyhanna, Pa; Jacob Snyder, a senior history major from Nazareth, Pa; Jessica Null, a sophomore political science major from Philadelphia, Pa; Shakira Page, a sophomore criminal justice major from Philadelphia, Pa; Eric Levan, a senior political science major from Spring City, Pa; Amani Yeboah, a sophomore political science major from East Stroudsburg, Pa; and Richard Adami, a senior political science major from Levittown, Pa.
According to Dr. Adams, ESU received a scholarship to defray the cost for five ESU students to participate and the University’s department of political science will cover the costs for the remaining two students. The attending students will share their reactions to the speakers on their social media platforms, and the department will host a Zoom forum for students to discuss their experiences during the spring semester.
