“There is nothing wrong with me,” is the mantra of 14-year-old Trey DelGrosso. After giving a presentation to his classmates about living with Autism to help him connect with his peers, he decided to take his presentation to a larger audience. On April 16, DelGrosso will share his story “Autism – A Look Inside My Superpower” at East Stroudsburg University as a part of a conference titled “Through Their Eyes.”
In its 22nd year, the conference hosts speakers who have overcome attitudinal, physical or cultural barriers. Joining DelGrosso will be Danielle Koehler, whose presentation is entitled “My Journey Towards Self-Discovery,” Bekah Grace whose presentation is “Removing the Stigma Surrounding Mental Illness,” and Bernard Carabello, presenting “His Story” about the 18 years he spent as a resident of Willowbrook State School.
The conference, which will be held virtually from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., aims to give those in attendance a personal perspective from people with disabilities that is unique, according to Domenico Cavaiuolo, Ph.D., professor of special education and rehabilitation.
“It is intended to provide the audience with an understanding that people with disabilities can accomplish great things despite their challenges,” he said.
The conference is open to the public and it is free of charge. For more information contact Dr. Cavaiuolo at (570) 422-3893, or dcavaiuolo@esu.edu
