ESU Continues “Writers Write/Writers Chat” Series With Alabama Poet Laureate Ashley M. Jones

East Stroudsburg University’s Department of English, the College of Arts and Sciences and the ESU Women of Color Initiative (WOCI) will sponsor the University’s second “Writers Write/Writers Chat” virtual literary reading event with Alabama Poet Laureate Ashley M. Jones, author of Reparations Now! (Hub City Press, 2021) on Wednesday, March 30 at 4 p.m.
The event is open to the general public at no cost. Those interested in attending and participating in this initiative may do so by logging on to Zoom at https://esu-online.zoom.us/j/91438073167. Attendees are asked to please log in with their full name.
Ashley M. Jones is Poet Laureate of the state of Alabama (2022-2026). She holds an MFA in Poetry from Florida International University, and she is the author of REPARATIONS NOW! (Hub City Press 2021). Her poetry has earned several awards, including the Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers Award, the Silver Medal in the Independent Publishers Book Awards, the Lena-Miles Wever Todd Prize for Poetry, a Literature Fellowship from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, and the Lucille Clifton Poetry Prize and Legacy Award.
According to Dr. Artress White, associate professor of English, “Jones is the first African American poet to hold this position in the state of Alabama, and we are pleased to celebrate this historic appointment with a reading and conversation with the poet.”
