East Stroudsburg University’s Provost’s Colloquium Series, an intellectual experience that promotes dialogue among ESU faculty, staff, students, and community, continues during the Spring 2023 semester with a presentation by Deena Dailey, Ph.D.., assistant professor of psychology. The presentation, “The Neuroscience of Attention: Brain, Behavior, & Personal Tech”, will take place on Wednesday, March 1, at 5:30 p.m. in Beers Lecture Hall. The presentation will also be live streamed on the ESU Live Events webpage.
Smartphones are ubiquitous in today’s society. Approximately 97% of Americans own a cellphone and approximately 85% own a Smartphone. Dr. Dailey will explore the manner in which people engage with personal tech, such as smartphones, and how this technology influences our behaviors. The presentation touches on topics from the areas of psychology, cognitive neuroscience, evolutionary biology, and behavioral health to examine how these devices influence our behaviors while moving about in our environment. The presentation will include information concerning adaptive functioning, selective attention and ambulatory mobile device behaviors. The audience will interact by submitting questions related to the topic for their consideration and soliciting responses and with interactive demonstrations.
