East Stroudsburg University’s Provost’s Colloquium Series, an intellectual experience that promotes dialogue among ESU faculty, staff, students, and community, opens the Fall 2023 semester with a presentation by Brooke Langan, Ed.D., dean college of education, Laura Kieselbach, Ed.D., associate professor English, Steve Ives, manager international programs, and Santiago Solis, Ed.D., vice president campus life and inclusive excellence. The presentation, “Overseas Adventures: Creating Scaffolded Opportunities for ESU Students Abroad”, will take place on Wednesday, September 6, at 5:30 p.m. in Beers Lecture Hall. The presentation will also be live streamed on the ESU Live Events webpage.

The presentation will focus on a program that resulted in valuable international learning adventures in Germany. Dr. Langan, Dr. Kieselbach, Ives, and Dr. Solis accompanied seven ESU students last spring to the University of Landau-Konblenz in Landau in der Pfalz, Germany as part of the ESU course “Teaching of Communications”. The ESU students were placed in four different types of German educational institutions: academic high school, comprehensive middle school, vocational school, and an inclusive elementary school where they spent time in German classrooms working with students at varying grades and levels of English fluency. The students participating had served as “buddies” to German preservice teaching students who were on ESU’s campus during the fall 2022 semester. The group will present their comparative findings from their international learning experience.

The ESU students participating are Parker Beiler, Amber Cohen, Erin Guilfoyle, Joclyn Irons, Jared Johnson, Piper Langan, and James P. Schupp.
