The president’s Commission for Women (CFW) at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) and ESU’s Women’s Center will host LUNAFEST®, a fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, on Thursday, October 18, 2012, from 4-6 p.m. in Beers Lecture Hall, located on the front circle of campus. A second showing, co-sponsored by the CFW, the Women’s Center and the Pocono Community Theatre, will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012, from noon – 2 p.m. at the Pocono Community Theatre, 88 S. Courtland St., East Stroudsburg, Pa. Both events are open to the general public and tickets for each are $5 at the door. Donations will also be accepted.
LUNAFEST® is a national touring festival now in its eleventh season. The event highlights women filmmakers, and is intended to bring women together in their communities. This unique film festival highlights women as leaders in society, illustrated through short films by women filmmakers. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, sexuality, cultural diversity, and breaking barriers.
All proceeds from LUNAFEST® will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund and The Lucy Fund for Metastatic Breast Cancer Research in memory of Dr. Lucy Stanovick, an ESU English professor who lost her life to metastatic breast cancer in August 2012. Thus far, LUNAFEST®, which is created and funded by LUNA®, the whole nutrition bar for Women®, has raised nearly $456,000 for the Breast Cancer Fund and over $785,000 for other women’s non-profit organizations.
