In celebration of African-American Heritage Month (AAHM), East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s (ESU) Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) announces that the first Dr. Patricia Graham Step Show will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 2, in the Abeloff Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $10 per person and may be purchased at the door.
The event, which is intended to become an annual affair, is sponsored by the ESU Greek Affairs department and the AAHM committee, and will feature presentations by some of the Black Greek-lettered organizations as well as multicultural organizations and the ESU Step Team, a group that is part of the African-American Student Alliance. Each group will perform a stepping routine — marching in a rhythmic and styled beat in a group in unison. The event will showcase the talent and history of stepping in the African-American culture. Trophies will be awarded to the top sorority and fraternity teams. Funds raised by the event will benefit the ESU Greek Affairs department, which is within the Student Activity Association and Student Affairs.
Dr. Graham, a professor and chairperson of the department of Intercultural and Interdisciplinary Studies, will be recognized at the event for her positive influence on ESU students. Organizers say the event is being named after Dr. Graham, who is retiring in May, to honor her for her invaluable work in influencing African-American students on the campus.
