ESU’s University/Community Concert Band To Present Twenty-Sixth Annual Spring Band Concert

Out of the Ashes,” music that represents overcoming obstacles or rising up out of the flames of adversity, will be featured at University/Community Concert Band’s twenty-sixth annual Spring Band Concert Sunday, May 12, at East Stroudsburg University.
Pre-Concert music by the Warrior Bands Percussion Ensemble will begin at 6:45 p.m. Curtain time for the concert, sponsored by the Department of Music, is 7 p.m. at the Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall in the university’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg.
“Out of the Ashes,” the finale of Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite as featured in Walt Disney’s animated movie Fantasia, will be a highlight of the program. Other selections include Battle Hymn of the Republic and “Lord Melbourne” from Percy Graingers’s Lincolnshire Posy.
At the concert, the University/Community Concert Band will recognize its graduating seniors. The Kathryn Mullins Memorial Band Scholarship also will be presented at the performance.
The performance is open to the public at no cost. Donations for University Bands will be accepted by the ESU Foundation.
The University Bands Program is supported by the Student Activity Association, the ESU Parent’s Association, the ESU Foundation and the ESU Alumni Association.
