Amy Siskind to give University-Wide Lecture

East Stroudsburg University students will have the opportunity next week to hear from the national spokeswoman Amy Siskind, who was a highly successful Wall Street executive before turning her efforts to a major, non-profit organization.

Siskind will give a university-wide lecture, “Women as Leaders: Yes, You can Have ‘Your’ All,” at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, in Beers Lecture Hall. A regular contributor to the Huffington Post and the Daily Beast, Siskind is the co-founder and president of The New Agenda, a national, non-profit organization that tackles pressing issues, including economic independence and advancement, gender representation and bias, sexual assault and domestic violence.

“Her work is changing the lives of young women in this country,” said event organizer, Kimberly S. Adams, Ph.D., an ESU associate professor of political science. “Meeting successful people who are willing to speak with and mentoring people, young ladies particularly, is one of the most influential and inspiring things I can think of with regard to preparing young women for the future.”

Siskind’s national radio and television appearances include CNN, Fox News, CNBC, PBS and NPR. Writers from the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, POLITICO, U.S. News & World Report, Real Clear Politics, The Boston Globe and The Hill, frequently reach out to Siskind.

Siskind, who received her bachelor’s degree in economics from Cornell University and her MBA in finance from The New York University Stern School of Business, speaks on college campuses and to young women about economic empowerment. She also delivers inspirational speeches to professional women on how to succeed.

A pioneer in the distressed debt trading market, Siskind has a lifetime of experience with failure and remarkable success. When she was 31, she became the first female managing director at Wasserstein Perella before running the trading departments at Morgan Stanley and Imperial Capital, where she was also a partner.

“I’m hoping that through her inspirational message, they will chart their own path to success,” Adams said. “Hopefully the students will be encouraged by not only her life, but also by her work.”
