Desaki and the Trapasso family, Pocono Medical Center, Pocono 96.7 and ESU are pleased to announce their partnership in support of a multi-stage fundraising initiative through the Monroe County VALOR organization. VALOR is a program through which veterans help other veterans who have become displaced or homeless in the Monroe County region after returning from active military duty. The need of the VALOR organization is particularly critical at the present time with the coming winter months and associated weather conditions.
“Something needs to be done now to assist these veterans in making it through the winter,” expresses Vincent Trapasso, owner of Desaki.
Homeless veterans, both male and female, are living in makeshift shelters throughout Monroe County and are completely without basic necessities. Specific items of need for winter include sleeping bags, tents, winter coats, winter boots, socks, clothing, and under garments. Additionally, non-perishable food items are a constant necessity. Of particular importance are dried meats and fruits, peanut butter, and meats and fish in pull-top cans.
“There are 6 or 7 veterans that I can introduce you to right now who are living in Monroe County in these makeshift shelters in the woods,” explains Mark Baylis, Veteran and Monroe County VALOR volunteer.
In order to raise the funds necessary to provide the number of supplies needed, Desaki, Pocono Medical Center, and Pocono 96.7 will be hosting a “Meet the Vets” event at Desaki on November 27at 7 pm. This fundraiser will be the first of a number of important efforts in support of the veterans of Monroe County. Future efforts include providing medical care and dental care by Doctor Jeffery Wert. The VALOR fundraising initiative will culminate in the construction of a transitional housing and services facility in East Stroudsburg, Pa.
“Veterans that are suffering need our help,” conveys PA State Trooper Victor Ortalano.
