East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania theatre students took part in quite the experience on Thursday, March 27, when they worked side-by-side with nationally recognized theatre designer Yoshinori Tanokura, ESU assistant professor of theatre, to create and implement a window display at Liztech Jewelry in East Stroudsburg to promote the university’s production of The Wizard of Oz. Students designed The Emerald City and Yellow Brick Road as part of the storefront. The project helped teach the students some of the practical skills they will need in the future and it allowed them the chance to mimic creating and implementing a set design. Tanokura’s innovative designs have graced the stages of regional theatres and opera houses from New York to Alaska.
Performances of The Wizard of Oz are at 7:30 p.m. from April 24-25; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on April 26; and 2 p.m. on April 27. General admission tickets cost $12. The Wizard of Oz is directed by Margaret Ball, D.M.A., ESU associate professor of theatre. Tanokura is the scenic and costume designer.
