East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D., announced the appointment of Mr. David Bousquet as the vice president of enrollment management effective July 1, 2014. With more than 27 years of work experience in higher education, Bousquet comes to ESU from Northern Arizona University (NAU) where he most recently served as senior vice president for enrollment management and student affairs since 2010 and as vice president for enrollment management and student affairs since 2003. He also served as assistant vice president for enrollment at Iowa State University of Science and Technology, director of undergraduate admissions at Virginia Polytechnic Institute State University, and associate director of freshman admissions at the University of Massachusetts during his career.
Bousquet earned both a master’s degree in education with an emphasis on higher education administration and a bachelor’s degree in sociology with an Asian studies minor from the University of Massachusetts. He also pursued additional post-master’s degree work at the same institution and attended The Harvard Summer Institute of College Admissions. Under his leadership at NAU, enrollment increased 58 percent from 11,278 to 17,808. During the same time frame, the number of ethnic minority students in the freshman class increased from 456 to 1,730. Bousquet also helped NAU implement a peer-mentoring program for out-of-state freshmen, created an Enrollment Services Business Intelligence unit to provide timely, accurate and actionable data, and created innovative new programs, positions and partnerships that were specifically intended to maximize recruitment opportunities.
Further, Bousquet has presented at a number of national conferences about various aspects of student recruitment and retention issues and has authored journal articles on subjects ranging from the marketing of higher education to student recruitment and admission requirements. He also chaired or served on many committees and task forces at NAU.
ESU’s student enrollment center and office of admissions will report directly to Bousquet, who brings with him nearly three decades of expertise in student recruitment, enrollment and program development. He will report directly to President Welsh and will serve as a member of the university’s senior leadership team. In his new role, Bousquet will provide leadership in shaping strategic enrollment goals, counsel to the President on enrollment programs, and collaboration with various university departments in the development of recruitment and retention strategies for ESU.
