Twenty-eight undergraduate students, 10 graduate students and six faculty members from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Speech-Language Pathology Department attended the annual convention of the Pennsylvania Speech-Language-Hearing Association in Pittsburgh, Pa., from April 2-5.

Dawn Craig, a graduate student from Easton, Pa., seeking a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, presented a poster session called “Addressing Proprioceptive Needs in Selecting AAC for Individuals with Autism.” Contributing to the poster were Mark Wallace, a graduate student from Mount Pocono, Pa., seeking a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, Kathee Lazzara, an ESU part–time instructor of speech-language pathology and Ann Millett, ESU assistant professor of speech-language pathology.

Professors Millett and Lazzara presented a seminar titled “The Supervision and Administration of a University Clinic,” featuring procedures, forms and policies used in the ESU Speech and Hearing Clinic to successfully assign, supervise and manage clients served by graduate clinicians.

LuAnn Batson-Magnuson, Ph.D., ESU assistant professor of speech-language pathology, presented a seminar on “Traumatic Brain Injury: Delayed Sequela and the Impact of Aging.”  This presentation was a follow-up to her recent publication on this topic. Elaine Shuey, Ph.D., ESU professor and chair of speech-language pathology, served on the Von Drach Scholarship Committee through which PSHA provides a scholarship to one outstanding graduate student each year.

Rachel Wolf, Ph.D., an ESU assistant professor of speech-language pathology, recently had an article published in the academic journal, “Aphasiology,” a competitive, peer-reviewed publication. Wolf’s article is titled, “The ear craves the familiar: Pragmatic repetition in left and right cerebral damage.” She has most recently performed research on pragmatic repetition in normal and disordered verbal discourse in collaboration with members of the Brain and Behavior Lab at Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research in Orangeburg, N.Y.

East Stroudsburg University’s Entrepreneurship Club visited the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday, April 22, to learn about finance and to experience an active market floor.

The Entrepreneurship Club gathers individuals who are interested in owning their own businesses and building network relationships. The club is responsible for hosting networking events, scheduling guest speakers and participating in business plan competitions.

Accompanying students on the trip were Daisy Wang, Ph.D., associate professor in the business management department, and Yue Xi, Ph.D., assistant professor in the business management department.
