East Stroudsburg University served as a rest stop for a group of bicyclists making a coast-to-coast cross-country journey. The group arrived at ESU on Monday, July 18 and was provided, beds, showers and meals. They departed on Tuesday, July 19 for Marlboro N.J. before completing their journey in Brooklyn, N.Y.
The Chris Carrino Foundation for FSHD announced the launch of a coast-to-coast cross-country bicycling journey, entitled C2C4FSHD, in May. It was created as a concept to help raise much needed awareness and funds for research to battle FSHD. FSHD (Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy) is the most common form of muscular dystrophy and has no known treatment or cure. Over a dozen intrepid bicyclists will embark on this epic journey spanning 46 cities across 15 states, covering a staggering 4,200 miles in 54 days, starting at the Space Needle in Seattle on Saturday, May 27th and ending at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY on Wednesday, July 19th.
“This tour is designed to connect with the FSHD community, researchers, and local media in order to raise awareness, money for research, and hope for all those touched by FSHD,” said Foundation President Chris Carrino. Carrino is a well-renown sportscaster and the radio voice of the Brooklyn Nets. Diagnosed with FSHD just after college, Carrino is using his voice to be an advocate for all those battling this form of muscular dystrophy. The Chris Carrino Foundation for FSHD is a 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to finding a treatment and a cure for FSHD – and inspiring people along the way.
“My team is very excited and ready to take on this amazing journey to join forces with Chris Carrino to help raise awareness and much needed funds to battle this debilitating disease” said Concept Creator and Core Team Leader Frank P. Carbone who will lead a group of up to 12 riders from across the United States. “We are extremely proud and honored to represent the foundation and everything that it stands for and hope to raise over $100,000 to help find a cure.”
