East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will host a screening of the Black Maria Film Festival Tour on Monday, April 3, at 3:15 p.m. in the Dale Snow Theatre of ESU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg.

Jane Steuerwald, festival director, will host the screening which will feature a collection of stellar works chosen to tour in the Festival’s 36th season, including animation, documentary and narrative shorts.

Founded in 1981, the Black Maria Film Festival celebrates and preserves the diversity, invention, and vitality of the short film by showcasing works of independent filmmakers from around the world. This season, submissions to the juried competition came from every continent except Antarctica.

To bring these independent films to a wider audience, the festival travels to museums, cinemas, cultural centers, colleges and universities throughout the United States and abroad. This is the festival’s first visit to East Stroudsburg University.

The festival is a tribute to Thomas Edison’s development of the motion picture at his West Orange, New Jersey laboratory, dubbed the “Black Maria” film studio, the first in the world, and is a project of the Thomas A. Edison Media Arts Consortium, an independent, non-profit, organization.

The tour, sponsored by Office of the Provost, is open to the public at no cost.  No tickets are required.
