University of South Carolina Senior to Speak at ESU on Relationship Violence

A senior at the University of South Carolina (USC), Olivia Hassler will tell her story about relationship violence to empower others at East Stroudsburg University (ESU) on February 25.

Hassler is an advocate who began speaking out against relationship violence after a vicious episode with her now ex-boyfriend left her unconscious and hospitalized. The program, titled Olivia’s Story: The Courage to Fight Back, will be held in the Neidbala Auditorium (Room 117) of the Warren E. ’55 & Sandra Hoeffner Science & Technology Center at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

ESU and NCC Celebrate Finalization of Accelerated Degree Programs in Business and Nursing

The presidents, provosts and deans of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) and Northampton Community College (NCC) celebrated the signing of an agreement yesterday that will finalize a new partnership that… will fast track the completion of bachelor’s degree programs in business administration and provide a Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) completion program option right on NCC’s Bethlehem campus.

Senior Receives National Scholarship

Senior Zachary Cappella is now one of 207 college students granted a scholarship from the United States Department of Defense Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) program.

The SMART program is for students in science, mathematics and related fields. Winners of the scholarship receive full tuition waivers, internships, health insurance and a stipend rate up to $38,000. SMART’s hefty rewards don’t come easy. Applicants are required to submit several personal essays, three letters of recommendations and attend multiple interview sessions.

Theatre Students Earn Multiple Accolades at Region II Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival

Students from East Stroudsburg University’s theatre department earned multiple honors, including two major awards, at the Region II Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) held recently at West Chester University of Pennsylvania.

Founded in 1969, KCACTF is a national program that serves as a catalyst to improve the quality of college theatre through its network of more than 600 universities throughout the United States.

David Kunz, a junior from Stroudsburg, Pa. majoring in theatre and digital media technologies, earned a KCACTF Award for Sound Design Excellence, an honor that advances him to the national KCACTF competition in Washington, D.C. in April. He also earned a Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas Award for Excellence in Technology and Design, which includes a one-week master class at the institute.

ESU Hosts Art Exhibit: Live Design: Jocelyn Kolb-3D printed jewelry; Kimberly Snyder-Concept Product

An exhibit that highlights contemporary design, Live Design: Jocelyn Kolb-3D Printed Jewelry; Kimberly Snyder-Concept Product Design, will be featured February 1 to March 4 at the Madelon Powers Gallery of East Stroudsburg University’s… Fine & Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg.

Hours for the gallery are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays.

A reception for the artists will be held on Thursday, February 4 from 4-6 p.m. in the gallery. Both the exhibit and reception are open to the public at no cost.

Communication Studies Major Attends The Harrisburg Internship Semester

Abby Krueger, a junior majoring in communication studies from Stroudsburg, Pa., is working in the office of House Democratic Whip Michael D. Hanna as part of a 15-week internship sponsored by Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education.

She is one of 16 students participating in The Harrisburg Internship Semester (THIS) program, which provides students the opportunity to work in all areas of state government while earning a full semester’s worth of credits. Office of Workforce Development WEDnetPA, ESU to Allocate $233,454 to Businesses for Training Grants

East Stroudsburg University’s Office of Workforce Development was awarded $233,454 for fiscal year 2015-16 to support workforce training though the Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania (WEDnetPA).

The WEDnetPA Program provides qualified companies with funds to train their employees in Essential Skills up to $450 per eligible employee and in Advanced Technology Skills up to $850 per eligible employee. Companies may qualify for a total of $75,000 for Essential Skills Training and $50,000 for Advanced Technology Training. Popular industry sectors utilizing WENnetPA funding include advanced manufacturing, information technology, life sciences, healthcare, finance, and environmental companies.
