East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Music will present a faculty voice recital featuring tenor James Maroney at 3 p.m., October 14, in the Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall of the Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg. The performance is open to the public at no cost.
Pianist Ruth Kochera, bass-baritone Charles Unice, countertenor Patrick Fennig, and the Penn Strings Quartet, will be assisting Maroney at the recital.
The program will include duets by Felix Mendelssohn; “Canticle II” by Benjamin Britten; the opening of Act IV of “La Bohème” by Giacomo Puccini; “On Wenlock Edge” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; and four lighthearted songs by American composers Aaron Copland, Edward Diemente, Charles Ives, and Jerry Bock.
Dr. Maroney is an associate professor of music at ESU, where he serves as director of choral and vocal activities. He has performed throughout the eastern United States in recital, oratorio, and opera.
As a recent grant recipient of the prestigious President’s Research Fund, Maroney
gave lecture-recital performances of major song cycles. He is one of the foremost authorities on music for voice and classical guitar, and, in 2006, he was awarded a grant to perform concerts of that music at colleges in the Northeast.
