Over 400 East Stroudsburg University students are gaining hands-on experience this semester through internships, clinicals, and student teaching placements. These student interns are majoring in more than 20 programs, including accounting, art + design, athletic training, biology, business management, communication, communication sciences and disorders, computer science, criminal justice, digital media technologies, education, English, environmental studies, exercise science, finance, hotel restaurant and tourism management, marketing, nursing, political science, psychology, social work, sociology, and sport management.
“We have students placed with school districts, hospitals and health care providers, police departments, child welfare agencies, hotels, and sports teams – and, those are just a few examples,” said Margaret Ball, D.M.A, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. Students are placed with a variety companies including local non-profits, financial companies, globally-known entities like Walt Disney World and Madison Square Garden, regional police departments, and with renowned faculty and staff on ESU’s campus.
“Whether a student is studying in the health science or social sciences, education, media technologies or the arts, internships are an important step in preparing them for a career after graduation,” Dr. Ball said. “We start to prepare students for their future the first day they step onto campus. They take all the courses, read all the books, and do all the work. Then, they have this amazing opportunity to take everything they’ve learned here at ESU and apply it as they work with leaders in their field.”
