The general public is invited to enjoy two celestial screenings in the McMunn Planetarium in East Stroudsburg University’s Hoeffner Science and Technology Center on Friday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
At 7:00 p.m., the space exploration film titled “Oasis in Space” will be shown on the state-of-the-art Spitz SciDome projection system. It is a film that describes mankind’s current knowledge of the universe and solar system and the search for water and possible life on other planets. This show will be followed by a second screening, “Black Holes,” at 8:00 p.m. “Black Holes” is a full dome video program produced by the Denver Planetarium and NOVA. It reveals the latest discoveries concerning black holes and includes a simulated journey to the center of our galaxy.
The shows are offered to the general public at no cost but seating is limited. Reservations are required due to limited seating and may be made on-line at www.esu.edu/planetarium beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Monday morning, October 17.
Another planetarium show is scheduled for December 2. Reservations for this event will be taken the Monday prior to the show. Those interested in attending planetarium events may reserve up to four seats for a specific show. Programs are suitable for children but be advised that the planetarium will be quite dark during the sky show and feature show.
Group inquiries should send an e-mail request to stardomes@po-box.esu.edu. A schedule of planetarium shows for the fall 2011 semester will be posted at www.esu.edu, then click on “News and Events,” then “Planetarium Show Reservations.”
