East Stroudsburg University assistant professor of sport management, Minkyo Lee, Ph.D., received the New Researcher Award at the 27th European Association of Sport Management (EASM) conference in Seville, Spain earlier this month. The award, sponsored by the European Sport Management Quarterly (ESMQ) and Routledge Journals, recognizes the best original theoretical or empirical advance and most significant unpublished contribution in the field of sport management. Research was also evaluated based on its appropriateness for presentation at the conference and for publication by ESMQ.

Dr. Lee’s study, titled “Cognitive and emotional processing of TV commercials in mediated sports: A re-inquiry using a psycho-physiological approach,” focused on how emotions experienced during sporting events spillover to influence cognitive information processing of subsequent ads. He was one of three candidates from three countries that were considered for this honor.

EASM’s New Researcher Award has been established to stimulate dissemination of new ideas and innovative research in sport management by encouraging new researchers at the start of their career. To be eligible for this honor, researchers were required to be near completion of their doctoral degree or have graduated less than three years prior to submission.

As the recipient of this award, Dr. Lee will be invited to submit a full paper of his work to the ESMQ for publication. He also received a cash prize (donated by Routledge Journals), a complimentary one-year EASM membership, and a free annual subscription to the ESMQ.

EASM was established in 1993 as an independent association of people involved or interested in the management of sport in the broadest sense. EASM membership is comprised of academics and professionals from the public, voluntary and commercial sectors, internationally. EASM members represent 40 different countries from every continent. The organization has a wide international network of experts and national organizations in the fields of sport management and has close European and Intercontinental relations, particularly the International Sport Management Alliance.
