East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania wants to celebrate the earth. “Leaf no Trace,” this year’s Earth Day celebration, will be held on Thursday, April 23 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the Shawnee Quad and includes booths, environmental trivia, live music, and giveaways.
“We need to be respectful of the earth and there are so many things we can do to make a difference,” said Madeline Constantine, program director at Stony Acres, the ESU student-owned recreation area in Marshalls Creek, Pa. “We hope people who attend the celebration will be more informed about environmental issues.”
Megan Wilson, a graduate student at Rutgers University majoring in biology, Darryl Speicher, environmental educator from Monroe County Conservation District, and John Motz, a resource Conservation specialist at the Monroe County Conservation District, will speak at this year’s event. Topics include The Decline of Monarch Butterflies, Monroe County Species of Concern, and Water, Water Everywhere.
The masters of ceremonies for this event are Lauren Wilson, a senior majoring in recreation services management from Newton, N.J., and Kristina Roy, a freshman majoring in biology from Greentown, Pa.
The Earth Day celebration is open to the public and it is free of charge. For more information contact Constantine at 570-422-3334.
