Three East Stroudsburg University Students will take part in the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences European Business & Culture Summer School in Bielefeld, Germany from May 15 through June 23.

Aidan Bonass, a sophomore majoring in accounting from Havertown, Pa.; Joshua Lance, a senior majoring in marketing from Blairstown, N.J.; and John Vanic, a freshman majoring in history from Nazareth, Pa.; won an essay competition sponsored by ESU’s College of Business Management and Office of International Programs that provided funding for the six-week program.

“The purpose of this essay competition is to stimulate and demonstrate the ability of future business leaders to identify important issues and developments in today’s global community,” said Sylvester Williams, J.D., Dean of ESU’s College of Business and Management. “ESU’s new partnership with Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences will provide business students with an opportunity to learn more about international business.”

The students will take classes focused on European culture/cross culture management and European politics and business, as well as visit regional companies with specific corporate culture and government policies.

Along with classroom work, students will take field trips to Hamburg, Berlin, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Amsterdam.

“Study abroad opportunities allow students to broaden their horizons and develop global citizenship. We believe that international travel is an opportunity to learn, grow, and experience a new culture,” said Steve Ives, director of the office of international programs.

Students in ESU’s College of Business and Management had another study abroad opportunity earlier this year. Five students taking Perspectives of International Tourism Management spent a week in San Jose, Costa Rica. The students visited hotels, restaurants, theatres, coffee farms, and government and tourism agencies.

Amanda Antoine, a junior majoring in psychology from Allentown, Pa.; Taylor Black, a junior majoring in communication from Abington, Pa.; Carson Garvey, a freshman majoring in recreation services management from Boiling Springs, Pa.; Charles-Olivier Godin-Blier, a senior majoring in hotel, restaurant and tourism management from Nazareth, Pa.; and Sarah Hauptman, a junior majoring in hotel, restaurant and tourism management from Kunkletown, Pa.; were accompanied by Ives and Dr. Fredrick Meitner, assistant professor of hospitality on the program.
