Sixteen students of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s political science department headed to Harrisburg, Pa. on April 14. Adam McGlynn, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science, took his students to the state capitol to meet with local state legislators, which included Representatives Rosemary Brown, David Parker and State Senator Mario Scavello. The students were also able to watch the Pennsylvania General Assembly in session, talk to ESU alumni who work in Harrisburg and tour the capitol building.
“The trip gave students the opportunity to discuss with state legislators many of the policy issues that are addressed in their political science classes,” Dr. McGlynn said. “The three legislators fielded questions from students on natural gas production, the Common Core Standards, homelessness, LGBT discrimination legislation, the minimum wage, gasoline taxes and other topics.”
While there, students met with Dan Hagan ’14, who is currently the deputy political director for the Republican Party of Pennsylvania. Hagan discussed how his experience as a student at ESU helped him prepare for his current career, and spoke to students about various job opportunities they can seek after graduation.
