ESU Gamma Xi Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, The International Honor Society in Education, Inducted 30 New Members

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Gamma Xi Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), the International Honor Society in Education, inducted 30 new members and recognized two outstanding educators during the chapter’s annual induction ceremony at the Stroudsmoor Country Inn in Stroudsburg, Pa., in April. Kappa Delta Pi was established to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. This International Honor Society has been an active educational organization since 1911. The more than 42,000 members include the best and brightest scholars and practitioners in the field of education. ESU has sponsored a chapter of KDP since 1931.

The new members of the ESU chapter have earned a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.4 and have performed more than 20 hours of community service during the past year.

Those inducted to ESU’s Gamma Xi Chapter this year included: Patricia Barnes (Piscataway, N.J.), Jessica Basir (Nanuet, N.Y.), Abby Binkley (Ephrata, Pa.), Caitlin Brosnan (Tannersville, Pa.), Katherine Casillas (Union, N.J.), Jennifer Denaro (Saylorsburg, Pa.), William Devlin (Beverly, N.J.), Alexander Flores (Beachwood, N.J.), Angelica Gabriel (Clarks Summit, Pa.), Mabelis Garcia (West Orange, N.J.), Christina Heckelman (Effort, Pa.), Colette Hunter (River Vale, N.J.), Kimberly Jones (Allentown, Pa.), Brielle Kessel (East Stroudsburg, Pa.), Gabriella Martucci (Union, N.J.), Lori Owens (Plymouth, Pa.), Amanda Pepsis (Swoyersville, Pa.), Chelsea Peralta (Pocono Summit, Pa.), Kasi Reborchick (Saylorsburg, Pa.), Angelica Salamon (Manville, N.J.), Heather Santostefano (Teaneck, N.J.), Stephen Scism (Flanders, N.J.), Jennifer Searfoss (East Stroudsburg, Pa.), Rebecca Smith (Valatie, N.Y.), Carlin Rose Todd (East Stroudsburg, Pa.), Kimberly Vagie (Bushkill, Pa.), Amanda Vrabel (Whitehall, Pa.), Nicole Werrell (East Stroudsburg, Pa.), Sara Yost (Oakhurst, N.J.), and Elena Zervos (Easton, Pa.).

Kasey Kinney, a teacher in the Stroudsburg Area School District, was honored as Outstanding Educator of the Year. Rhonda Sutton, Ed.D., ESU assistant professor of reading, was honored as the Outstanding Professor of the Year. Both recipients were honored for exemplifying the ideals of Kappa Delta Pi and demonstrating excellence in education.

Graduating seniors this semester also were honored and received honor cords and medallions to wear at this weekend’s commencement ceremony.
