East Stroudsburg University’s students, faculty, and staff are leaders in the classroom and in the community. As we embark on a season of giving, we look back on just a few philanthropic endeavors our campus has taken part in this year.
Eight Greek Life organizations teamed up to hose a one-day clothing drive in April. Dozens of fraternity and sorority members collected clothes that were donated to Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church’s Clothing Closet and the East Stroudsburg Salvation Army.
The Warrior Food Pantry received generous donations thanks to campus fundraisers including an Empty Bowls fundraiser which featured handmade bowls by the art + media + design department and which were sold with homemade soup during an event held during President Kenneth Long’s Inauguration Week festivities. The Warrior Yard Sale also raised funds for the Warrior Food Pantry. Items donated by students at they move out of residence halls at the end of the academic year, including bedding, cleaning supplies, and electronics, are sold at a yard sale on campus and all proceeds benefit the pantry.
Twice each year, students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni join in a county-wide clean-up effort called Pick Up the Poconos. Members of the ESU community volunteer their time to clean up garbage in the East Stroudsburg Borough, helping to keep our campus and surrounding community a beautiful place to live, learn, work and play.
As the holiday season arrives ESU’s Student Government Association is set to host its annual Teddy Bear Drive. This year, SGA will collect stuffed animals and toys for children ages 3-8 years old. Members of SGA will deliver donations to two local schools in early December. To make a donation to SGA’s Annual Teddy Bear Drive, stuffed animals and toys can be brought to the SGA office Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
