ESU Holds Latino Heritage Month Film Series

East Stroudsburg University celebrates Latino Heritage Month with its 13th Latino Heritage Film Series. The festival will be held on Saturday, September 26 in Beers Lecture Hall on ESU’s campus. The festival is co-sponsored by the Department of Modern Languages, Philosophy, and Religion, the Office of the Provost, the ESU Foundation, and Kemp Library.

Kicking off the film festival will be The Ritual at 2 p.m. The Ritual, shown in Spanish and English with subtitles, is about a woman who’s watching her life and her grip on reality unravel as she is stalked by a malevolent presence. Before it consumes her, she must choose to fight back or surrender. There will be a Q&A with director Larry V. Santana ’06 following the screening.

Pérez Rodríguez will be shown at 3 p.m. in Spanish and English with subtitles. Carlos, Cristina, and Carmen are the Pérez Rodríguez siblings, a middle-class family in the Dominican Republic whose lives are turned upside down by their father’s death. Amid three gatherings – a birth, a funeral, and a birthday – family revelations come to the surface and unleash secrets, resentments, and confrontations that will test the value of their bonds. There will be a Q&A with the director, Humberto Tavárez, following the screening.
