Looking for that extra-special holiday gift this year? East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will host a folk and outsider art sale from Friday, November 28 to Tuesday, December 23 to benefit the Sterling Strauser Gallery at ESU. The sale will open with a special “Black Friday” preview on November 28 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at ESU’s Innovation Center, 562 Independence Road, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.
“Art creates a thriving, innovative and connected community,” said, Mary Frances Postupack, vice president of economic development and research support. “The artwork featured at this sale will enhance your home and office and allow you to give the priceless gift of art this holiday season.”
The sale will include over 100 works from local artists featuring works by Sterling and Dorothy Strauser and many of “The Strauser Circle” of artists who have drawn national and international attention including: Victor Joseph Gatto, Justin McCarthy, Jack Savitsky, Joseph Polinski and others. The “Strauser Circle” is comprised of artists that Sterling and Dorothy discovered and promoted. Items for sale come from the private collections of local and regional collectors and from Sterling Strauser family members. Many of the paintings have never been viewed publicly.
Following the preview on November 28, the sale will run weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on weekends by appointment. A portion of each sale will benefit the Sterling Strauser Gallery at ESU.
The gallery, which officially opened in May of 2012, features the works of Strauser, who lived and painted in East Stroudsburg from 1928 to 1995. The gallery’s initial collection was made possible thanks to a generous donation of 114 of Strauser’s paintings by philanthropists and ardent art dealers, Grey and Linda Carter and family of McLean, Va.
