Feminist Alliance, a student organization at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, is partnering up with Women’s Resources of Monroe County for the 25th annual Take Back the Night march and rally on Thursday, April 23. The march will begin at the Monroe County Courthouse and end at the doors of Stroud Hall at ESU for a rally at 6:30 p.m. This event, designed to raise awareness about sexual and domestic violence and empower men and women to feel safe at night, will feature music by Regina Sayles M’14, refreshments, and speakers.
“Most women don’t even think about why they don’t walk around after dark; it is just not something they do without fear,” explained Jessie Boe, Sexual Assault Counselor/Advocate of Women’s Resources. “That’s why this event is so important. We are taking back the night for every woman and child, to be able to go where they want without fear of violence.”
Since the 1970s, thousands of colleges, domestic violence shelters, and rape crisis centers have held Take Back the Night events all over the country, focusing on eliminating sexual and domestic violence in all forms.
This event is open to the public and it is free of charge. For more information contact Yvette Shelter at 570-424-2093, ext. 20 or yvetteshelter@wrmonroe.org
