East Stroudsburg University students, faculty, and staff will join Safe Monroe and the office of the District Attorney and other community agencies for the annual Take Back the Night march and rally on Thursday, April 3. Take Back the Night is an international event and non-profit organization with the mission of ending sexual, relationship, and domestic violence in all forms. Since the 1970s, thousands of colleges, domestic violence shelters, and rape crisis centers have held Take Back the Night events, focusing on eliminating sexual and domestic violence in all forms. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Participants are asked to meet at 5 p.m. at the Monroe County Courthouse, 610 Monroe Street, Stroudsburg, where they will be welcomed by the director of Safe Monroe. The walk will begin there, and proceed to ESU where it will end at Stroud Hall (number 9 on the campus map) with a moment of silence followed by a rally. The rally will feature speakers from ESU faculty, staff and students as well as community members.
The Take Back the Night march and rally is open to the public at no cost. Participants are encouraged to wear the color teal. The rain date for the event is Monday, April 7. For more information about this event, please contact Kayla Simon, ESU director of health and wellness, by emailing ksimon6@esu.edu.
