ESU Professor Appointed to American Fellowships Selection Panel

Kimberly S. Adams, Ph.D., professor of political science at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, was recently appointed to the American Association of University Women (AAUW) American Fellowships Selection Panel, for 2015-2017.

AAUW panelists identify promising scholars and advise the organization on developments in graduate education. More specifically, panelists evaluate, rank and recommend fellowship and grant applications submitted from scholars across the country to determine whether the scholarship should receive funding. Fellowship and grant recipients perform research in a wide range of disciplines and work to improve their schools and communities.

“One of the most challenging aspects of this position is actually deciding which proposals should receive funding,” Adams said. “The process is highly competitive and the quality of the research proposals is top notch.”

For Adams, serving on the panel that has been empowering women since 1881 is a ‘high honor.’

“I have benefited professionally from reviewing the proposals,” Adams said. “Reading the works of others ignites a fire in me to continue my own research on women and politics.”

AAUW provided more than $3.7 million in funding for more than 244 fellowships and grants to outstanding women and non-profit organizations in the 2014-2015 academic year. Adams served as a guest panelist for the 2014-15 academic year. Beginning in January 2015, she will start her term as a permanent panelist.
