ESU Professor Fred Misurella, Ph.D., To Read From His Novels At Pocono Community Theater

When Fred Misurella, Ph.D., East Stroudsburg University professor of English, steps outside his classroom, he spends his time off working on the same task that he assigns to his students every day — writing. The public will have the opportunity to hear some of Dr. Misurella’s writing when he reads from both his latest novel, Arrangement in Black and White, and his previous novel, Only Sons, on Saturday, October 4 at 2 p.m. at Pocono Community Theater.
Arrangement in Black and White, Misurella’s fifth novel, introduces an interracial couple and the conflicts that arise out of their relationship, which are more than racial. Only Sons focuses on the conflicts of three generations of Italian-American men and the women in their lives.
A Kirkus Review of these novels slated Arrangement in Black and White as a powerful story for contemporary readers that captures the conflicts that give edge and interest to most meaningful love stories, and Only Sons as a story that is sure to please fans of family sagas with its plot of dominating relationships.
Misurella hopes his novels relate to the conflicts that readers face in their families and in their relationships.
“We all have family problems,” he said. “Some are just different than others.”
As a writer, Misurella has a desire to get his stories out there for the world to read. “There’s an obsession about getting this stuff on paper,” he said. “It’s something that’s a part of my life without even thinking of it.”
It’s not the only thing that is a part of his life. Misurella has been a faculty member at ESU for 36 years. He looks at his students as a way to keep up with the times.
“I may get older, but the students stay young,” he said. “It’s always so interesting to keep up with what they’re talking about, and what they’re interested in.”
Misurella has donated more than 20 books to Pocono Community Theater, which will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go back to the theater. The reading is free of charge.
