On August 15, 2023 The Pocono Writing Project, led by East Stroudsburg University faculty Dr. Beth Rajan Sockman, professor of professional and secondary education and Dr. Laura Kieselbach, associate professor of English, hosted Dr. Artress White’s workshop “From the Classic Slave Narratives to Contemporary African American Literature: A Best Practices Workshop”. Dr. White is also an associate professor of English at ESU.
The workshop was for middle grade and secondary educators seeking ACT 48 renewal hours. Participants received published copies of Frederick Douglass’s 1845 slave narrative for their participation. The workshop focused on strategies for teaching African American literature responsibly.
