Earlier this semester, East Stroudsburg University’s Department of Sport Management welcomed six guest speakers currently working in the sport industry to campus for the ninth S.C.O.R.E. (Sport Careers: Opportunities, Recruitment, and Employment) Symposium. A total of 104 students attended the symposium.

The S.C.O.R.E. Symposium began by recognizing eight students who have been inducted to the Chi Sigma Mu Honor Society: Samantha Britton, a graduate student from Tinton Falls, N.J.; Leonor Chambel, a graduate student from Lisbon, Portugal; Anna Coulter, a senior from Harrisburg, Pa.; Hailey Errhalt, a senior from Morrisville, Pa.; Justin Hill, a senior from Salem, N.J.; Pieter Neerhof, a senior from Oosterbeek, Netherlands; Charlotte Simon, a junior from East Stroudsburg, Pa.; and Jordan Valenti, a junior from Jefferson Township, Pa.

The COSMA (Commission on Sport Management Accreditation) Chi Sigma Mu Honor Society represents the best students that COSMA-accredited programs have to offer. ESU sport management faculty nominated these students for their academic excellence (minimum 3.4 GPA for undergraduates and 3.6 GPA for graduates), extra-curricular activities and engagement, and community service. There are 34 colleges that have COSMA-accredited sport management academic programs, and 85 sport management students were inducted to Chi Sigma Mu Honor Society in 2025.

The inaugural Frank Pullo Leadership Award was also given out during this year’s S.C.O.R.E. Symposium. The award was established to honor the legacy of Dr. Frank Pullo, whose 40 years of service to ESU left an indelible mark on the campus community, especially within the Sport Management program. The Dr. Pullo Leadership Award seeks to recognize a student in the Sport Management program who exemplifies the leadership qualities and commitment to service that Dr. Pullo demonstrated throughout his career. The recipient must show a strong dedication to leadership and service within the Sport Management program and the broader campus community. They should also display a commitment to the professional and personal development of their peers, mirroring Dr. Pullo’s role as a mentor and advisor. Additionally, the awardee should demonstrate innovative leadership in developing or contributing to student initiatives, such as clubs, programs, or events that enhance the student experience in sport management. Lastly, the recipient’s impact should extend beyond their immediate circle, positively influencing the university community at large, just as Dr. Pullo did through his various leadership roles. The first Frank Pullo Leadership Award was presented to Jessica Harpel, a graduate student from West Chester, Pa.

Sport industry guest speakers participated in a panel discussion sharing their experiences and insight with current sport management students on the future direction of the industry. Following the discussion, students participated in a networking session with the speakers and 11 other representatives from industry leaders including the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Wilkes/Barre-Scranton Penguins, Pocono Raceway, Patriot League, Drew University, Lafayette College, and ESU.

The guest panelist included: Bridget Gannon, founder & CEO, BRIDGE Sports & Entertainment; James Greene, assistant commissioner, sport administration and championships, Big East Conference; Jason McKeown, director of facilities & operations (football and men’s lacrosse), Villanova University; Sky Dumont, director of sports programming, Philadelphia Union; and Jim Glovach, associate athletic director, ESU.
