More than 50 members of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s faculty, staff and administration put on their gloves, picked up a rake or a broom and participated in the second annual Campus Clean-Up Day on Friday, August 14.
“All of us at ESU enjoy coming together to benefit our students and our campus,” said President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D. “It was great to watch individuals from all areas of the campus community come together today to tackle clean-up activities and really showcase the Warrior spirit. The project gives us a chance to interact with and learn from colleagues that we may not see throughout the semester.”
ESU faculty, staff and administrators volunteered for clean-up duty between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. Although many areas were targeted, volunteers focused on the areas outside of Zimbar-Liljenstein Hall, Kemp Library, Mattioli Recreation Center, and the David Carlyon Pavilion.
The idea for this initiative was born a year ago during open discussions with employees about the university’s new strategic plan, Students First:Innovate. “ESU employees want to work together in the recruitment and retention of our students,” Dr. Welsh said. “We want to show our pride in the institution and most importantly let our students know that we’re excited to have them back on this beautiful campus they refer to as their second home.”
