ESU Students Inducted into Sigma Theta Tau

Twelve East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania seniors majoring in nursing were inducted into the Xi Beta chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society of nursing, on April 22.

To be induced into the honor society, candidates must have completed at least one half of the nursing curriculum, maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average and be ranked in the top 35 percent of their graduating class. The students have to demonstrate academic integrity and professional leadership, according to Paulette Dorney, Ph.D., assistant professor of nursing.

Nursing seniors who were inducted into the Xi Beta Chapter include Damien Boham, from Royersford, Pa., Chelsea Farabaugh, from Harrisburg, Pa., Claire Henry, from Lancaster, Pa., Caitlin Herr, from Landisville, Pa., Laura Mueller, from East Stroudsburg, Pa., Jennifer Newton, from Philadelphia, Pa., Danielle O’Connor, from Budd Lake, N.J., Alicia Palmentera, from Harding, Pa., Mary Ross, from Saylorsburg, Pa., Rebecca Shepley, from Sinking Spring, Pa., Melissa Smith, from Morrisville, Pa., and Candice Veale, from Pocono Lake, Pa.

Sigma Theta Tau International is an organization that supports the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide. Since its foundation in 1922, more than 360,000 members have been inducted.

“This organization is comprised of members demonstrating excellence and exhibiting exceptional achievements in nursing,” Dr. Dorney said.
