ESU Theatre Department to Present Heathers

East Stroudsburg University’s Department of Theatre, Music, and Dance will present the hit musical Heathers.  The cast of over 30 students, directed by Jason Narvy, Ph.D., assistant professor of theatre, will welcome audiences April 11 – 14.

Curtain times for the production are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (April 11-13) and 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 14. All performances are in the Smith-McFarland Theatre of the university’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg.

General admission is $18, senior citizens, faculty and staff (with ID) are $15, students (with ID) are $10, and youth are $5. Tickets are available online in advance at esu.edu/theatretickets. Tickets will also be available at the box office one hour before curtain on performance dates.

This dark-comedy musical, based on the 1988 cult classic film of the same name, follows Veronica Sawyer who joins, then combats the school’s most insidious clique: a group of bullies known as The Heathers. In her journey between bullies, geeks, and goths, she finds herself aligned with a mysterious teen lover, J.D. Together, they invent a plan to weaponize the twisted suburban morality that drives their world.

In addition to Dr. Narvy, the production team includes Dr, Brian Hodge, associate professor of music, as musical director; Bethanie Watson, assistant professor of theatre, as costume designer and scenic designer; Nyla Moody, a senior majoring in theatre from Philadelphia, Pa, assistant director; Tara Coyle ’04 as choreographer; and Janine Katona, a junior majoring in theatre from Horsham, Pa., as lighting designer;  and Sydney A Cain-Frazier, a sophomore majoring in theater from Abington, Pa, stage manager.
