East Stroudsburg University will host the third Undergraduate Student Conference hosted by the department of modern languages, philosophy, and religion, on Saturday, November 16. This year’s topic, Cultural Issues in a Global Society, will bring together students from universities in the greater Philadelphia and New York areas to present their research on cultural issues in the United States Latinx community, Latin America, Spain, China, and Japan. The conference, started in 2016, was created to raise awareness of cultural diversity across the world and share research in a student-centered conference. The deadline for submissions is November 1, and presentations may be given in either English or Spanish.

Dr. Claudia Mesa will be the keynote speaker, giving her presentation titled “Picturing the Virgin Queen: Elizabeth I, Tudor in Early Modern Spanish Sources.” She received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles in Hispanic Languages in Literatures, and currently works as an associate professor of Spanish at Moravian College. Her primary area of research is on Early Modern Peninsular literature with a focus in iconography. Dr. Mesa’s presentation will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Stroud Hall.

For further information, including schedule of sessions during the day, contact Dr. Esther Daganzo-Cantens, associate professor of Spanish, at edcantens@esu.edu.
