In preparation for student check-in starting Friday, August 22, East Stroudsburg University’s faculty, staff and administrators will band together on Monday, August 18, for the university’s very first Campus Clean-Up Day in order to have ESU’s grounds looking their very best for new students and their families.
“This is a great example of how all of us who work at ESU can come together to benefit our students and our campus,” said President Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D. “My hope is that many of the faculty, staff and administrators at ESU will find time to join in the clean-up activities and exercise their school spirit and pride. The project goes well beyond beautification. Working side by side, we can get to know other ESU colleagues that we may not see throughout the semester because we work in different buildings. We have an impressive campus and we need to keep it that way for the many generations of students, current and yet to come.”
ESU faculty, staff and administrators are invited to volunteer for clean-up duty any time between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Although many areas will be targeted, clean-up crews will focus on the Dansbury and Keystone Courtyards, the area outside of Kemp Library and the front circle. Clean up activities will conclude with an ice cream social at the Carlyon Pavilion located in between Hemlock and Hawthorn Suites.
According to President Welsh, the idea for this initiative was born during open discussions with employees about the university’s new strategic plan. “ESU employees are keenly aware of the need to recruit and retain our students and they want to find meaningful ways to help. Campus clean-up enables us to put aside our titles and work side by side to show our pride in the institution and the students we serve.”
If rain gets in the way on Monday, August 18, the clean-up initiative will take place during the same time period on Tuesday, August 19.
With nearly 2,800 students expected to be moving in August 22 to 24, more than 200 students representing various residence halls, Greek organizations and athletic teams have signed up to volunteer their efforts and help move in incoming freshmen and transfer students. In addition, approximately 30 faculty and staff volunteers, including President Welsh, will be on hand to help great students and their families as they get acquainted with their new surroundings.
“We’re really looking forward to having the students back on campus,” said President Welsh. “There’s nothing like starting a new semester fresh – and with a clean campus.”
