East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Political Science and the American Democracy Project (ADP) at ESU will host Pennsylvania’s 40th Senate District Candidates Debate on Thursday, October 9 at 7 p.m. in Beers Lecture Hall.

Adam McGlynn, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science and chair of ADP, organized this event. Hosting this debate prior to the election on November 4 will be valuable to the local community, according to McGlynn.

“We hope this debate will provide the community with an opportunity to hear the candidates in person and help them make an informed decision on Election Day,” he said.

The debate will feature Republican Mario Scavello and Democrat Mark Aurand, the candidates for the newly created 40th district of Pennsylvania Senate. They will debate current issues in advance of the election on November 4. Issues to be discussed include K-12 and higher education, taxation and transportation. The debate will be moderated by McGlynn and Kimberly S. Adams, Ph.D., professor of political science.

The political science department and ADP hosted two debates last spring during the primary election season. After receiving positive feedback from the local community, they decided to continue with the event this year.

“We hope that it will become a biennial tradition for state legislative elections,” McGlynn said.

Another debate with the candidates for the 115th district is scheduled on October 15.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information contact Dr. McGlynn at 570-422-3271 or amcglynn@esu.edu.
