East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania will celebrate Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22, from noon to 4 p.m. on the Quad. University clubs and community groups will provide information on eco-friendly habits, environmental trivia and will also offer a booth where people can “bring-a-shirt” to tie dye.

The afternoon will feature two guest speakers, each of whom will address the audience for about 10 minutes. Craig Todd, district manager for the Monroe County Conservation District will speak on “Water Resource Management and Protection,” and Howard Whidden, Ph.D., ESU professor of biological sciences, will give a presentation on bat conservation.

Several musicians will provide entertainment. There will be performances by Adam Day, Ken Hatt, a 2012 ESU graduate, and the Northern Revival band. In addition, students from the ESU’s Department of Recreation Services Management will host a recycling/repurpose fashion show. Students and faculty members will model clothes and accessories showing how used clothes can look new and fresh.

The recycling sub-committee of the University Sustainability Commission will collect gently used athletic/soccer shoes sizes 7 through 11. All donations will be given to the Modular Organic Regenerative Environments (MORE) Foundation. Additionally, the Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority will sponsor an electronic recycling program from noon to 4 p.m. in the parking area behind Laurel Hall. Waste Management will also host a drawing contest where one lucky individual will win an eight-person Red Canyon Coleman tent.

In the event of inclement weather, the festivities will be moved to the Keystone Room adjacent to the Quad. This event is open to the public at no cost and is sponsored by ESU’s Student Activity Association.
