ESU’s Eugene Galperin Hosts Final Opera Talk of the Semester

Opera enthusiast Eugene Galperin, Ph.D., assistant professor of mathematics at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, will explore the world of Spanish music in his talk titled Carmen-Spanish Dance Music and Human Drama on Wednesday, October 29 at 7 p.m. The talk will be held in the Niedbala Auditorium of the Warren E. ’55 and Sandra Hoeffner Science and Technology Center on Normal Street.

Galperin will discuss the long and eventful history of the Iberian Peninsula, the resulting rich musical culture, and its exploitation by composer Georges Bizet in his timeless operatic masterpiece – Carmen – a tale of seduction, jealousy, and love at its best and its worst.

This lecture is open to the public at no cost. Tickets are not required. The event will introduce the upcoming Metropolitan Opera HD broadcast at the Cinemark Theater at the Stroud Mall. Bizet’s opera, Carmen, will be shown at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, November 1, and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 5.
