East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Greek Life came together on Sunday, October 26 to clean up the streets of East Stroudsburg.
“We care about the image of our community and we are doing our best to make sure that we keep the campus and surrounding areas clean,” Robert Rinehart, a senior sport management major from Brodheadsville, Pa. and the Interfraternity Council President, said.
Rinehart worked with Candice Cantore, a senior public health major from Oceanside, N.Y. and the Panhellenic Council President, to reach out to members who were willing to volunteer their efforts and help the clean-up initiative.
Over one hundred Greek brothers and sisters joined Sunday’s clean up. Although many areas were targeted, the crew focused on Prospect Street, Normal Street, Ransberry Avenue, Smith Street, North Green Street, South Green Street, and Analomink Street. At the day’s end, over 18 bags of garbage were collected.
“We hope that Greek members who participated in the clean-up will gain a new appreciation for our local community and university,” Rinehart said. “East Stroudsburg is beautiful and we intend to keep it that way in the future.”
Greek Life plans to extend their collective effort further into the fall and spring semester— with dates already scheduled for the remainder of the academic year.
The clean-up initiative was sponsored by the office of Health Education and Alcohol and other Drugs Prevention (ATOD) at ESU. It was a part of the office of the office of Health Education’s Adopt-A-Block initiative.
