The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSHLA) at East Stroudsburg University will be hosting a Glow in the Dark Zumba Fundraiser as a part of NSSHLA day on Wednesday, November 18 from 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. in the Zimbar- Lijenstein Hall Gym.
All of the proceeds will be donated to Operation Smile. Operation Smile is an international volunteer organization that provides free surgeries to correct cleft lips and cleft palates of children and young adults from low income countries. They’ve provided more than 240,000 surgeries for children and young adults so far just this year.
“As future speech-language pathologists, we understand how having cleft palates and cleft lips can affect a person’s speech,” Katelyn Clancy, a senior majoring in speech-language pathology from Northampton, Pa., who is also president of NSSHLA, said.
Last year, the students raised $1,900 for Operation Smile, which covered seven surgeries. They are looking to top that. “It is our goal to raise money so that one day every person can have the surgery who needs it and cannot afford it.”
This event is open to the public. Tickets are $5 each and they will be sold at the door. For more information contact Clancy at kclancy1@live.esu.edu.
