ESU’s Student Art Association Juried Student Art Competition Awards Prizes To Top Artists

Prizes were recently awarded to the top artists in the East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) Student Art Association Juried Student Art Competition. At a ceremony on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, awards were given for best in show, second place, third place, honorable mentions and best 3-D prizes.
The following winners were announced: Best in Show – Lauriel Gingrich, a senior majoring in art and design, from Springfield, Ohio; Second Place – Alma Barrantes, a senior majoring in art and design, from East Stroudsburg, Pa.; ThirdPlace – Abigail Braman, a junior majoring in art and design, from Stroudsburg, Pa.; and, Best 3D – Melody Rivera, a junior majoring in art and design, from Portland, Pa. Honorable Mentions honors were awarded to: Aisha George, a junior majoring in art and design, from Bath, Pa.; Kelly Andagana, a sophomore majoring in art and design, East Stroudsburg, Pa.; Barrantes; Jeremy Soto, a sophomore majoring in art and design, East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Amber Soto, a senior majoring in psychology, Mount Pocono, Pa.

The contest entries will be displayed in the Madelon Powers Gallery of ESU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg, Pa., through Friday, April 19. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday and 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
Jurors were from the Living Room Gallery, a non-profit art space in the Sherman Theater. Mazure said that the cash prizes would not have been possible without the generous support/donations of Music in the Mountains and The Pocono Chapter of the Pennsylvania Craftsmen Guild.
The Student Art Association provides cultural enrichment for students, campus and the community. Students organize, plan and develop cultural projects for the campus community.
