Local businesses in Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg were eager to get involved in East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s homecoming week, which will take place October 13- 18.
“Downtown Stroudsburg is known for its boutiques & shops, restaurants & eateries, art galleries & entertainment, and day spas. It is also the home for ESU students,” Martha Loomis, co-owner of Josephine’s Fleur-de-lis, said. “On behalf of the downtown businesses, we are pleased to welcome ESU alumni home by participating in Paint the Town and offering specials during ESU’s Homecoming.”
Paint the Town, a competition where student designers and organizations partnered up with local businesses to paint display windows in the community, brought in 22 community members. ESU students will begin painting the town October 5, and all designs will be completed by the first day of the university’s Homecoming week on Tuesday, October 13. Vendors will also be participating in the Wild, Wild Wing-Off during the Homecoming Kick off on Tuesday, October 13. ESU students will get the chance to name their choice for the best college wings in town.
Aside from direct involvement, many businesses are generously supporting Homecoming week. Liztech Gallery on Crystal Street has created a Homecoming Week collection of four pins. From October 13- 18, Liztech will donate 50 percent (minus sales tax) of the purchase price of any pin in the collection to the university.
“Liztech is a homegrown business in our area. We feel that it is important for everyone to become involved with homecoming because it helps to strengthen ties with the community. It reminds us of wonderful times we have shared in many places and generates revenue for small businesses,” Danielle McCormack said on behalf of Liztech. “These small businesses are the roots of our town and its important to continue in supporting them. Homecoming keeps us humble and hopeful for more exciting memories.”
Over 20 local businesses will be offering discounts to Warrior alumni during Homecoming week. Fifteen businesses donated gift cards and prizes to the week including Chili’s, Moe’s Southwestern Grill, Kitchen Chemistry, Saen Thai Cuisine, Red Lobster, Jersey Mikes, Weis, Pocono Soap, Wawa, Paradise Tanning, Cook’s Corner, Gorman Chiropractic Life Center, Melanie’s Bloom, and Maximum Solutions Physical Therapy.
“We are so thankful for the generosity of all the businesses in the local area who have supported the program,” Doreen Tobin, D.Ed., vice president of student affairs, said. “For our alumni and our students, coming to their second home means much more than what we offer them our campus — the community is a part of their extended Warrior family.”
