East Stroudsburg University’s Madelon Powers Gallery will present the second Alumni Biennial Exhibition showcasing the creative works of ESU art + media + design graduates. The exhibition will run Wednesday, October 29 – Friday, December 5.
Hours for the gallery, located in the university’s Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite Streets, are Monday – Friday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
A reception will be held on Wednesday, October 29, from 4 – 5:30 p.m. Immediately following the reception, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., select alumni will participate in a panel discussion in Cohen Recital Hall, sharing insights about their creative careers, professional journeys, and the impact of their ESU education. This engaging conversation will offer current students, faculty, and community members a chance to connect directly with alumni who are making their mark across diverse fields. The exhibit, reception, and panel discussion are open to the public at no cost.
The Alumni Biennial, featured every two years, will feature an exciting array of works that span multiple disciplines such as photography, graphic design, web design, animation, cinematography, sound, lighting, illustration, painting, and more. Each alumni brings a distinct voice, vision, and technique, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience the evolving landscape of contemporary creative practice through the lens of those who began their journey here at ESU.
“This is more than just an exhibition, this biennial celebration is a testament to the transformative power of visual culture and creative education,” said Darlene Farris-LaBar, professor of art + media + design and department chair. “It honors the diverse paths our alumni have forged, revealing the lasting influence of their time within our department and the unique ways they are impacting communities and industries worldwide.”
Alumni presenting work in the show include Andreas Alomar ’19, Terrance Burke’94 , David Canady ’15, Carmela Cancelmo ’23, Devin Kagel ’20, MJ Law ’89, Alena Lisa ’15, Alex Ortiz ’18, George Pineda ’21, Laura Sarria ’20, and Samantha Washington ’17. “Together, their work reflects the innovative design thinking, technical expertise, and creative problem-solving that our students develop. Such skills enable graduates to create meaningful visual narratives, produce impactful media, and pioneer new forms of artistic expression that resonate across industries and communities,” said Farris-LaBar who also serves as director of the Madelon Powers Gallery.
The exhibition was co-curated by Farris-LaBar, David Mazure, professor of art + media + design, and Damian Thorn-Hauswirth, assistant professor of art + media + design.
